Vermont Wind Power Newsletters

VERA publishes three periodic newsletters that focus on wind power development progress and plans around Vermont and the Northeast: Deerfield Wind Power News, Vermont Wind Power News and Hoosac Wind Power News. These newsletters chronicle the development of the various projects in the region, as well as provide general information and education around wind energy technology and development issues.

Hypothetical Wind Power Potential on Public Lands in Vermont

VERA prepared a report in December 2003 for the Vermont Department of Public Service (VDPS) documenting hypothetical wind power potential on Vermont's public lands. The report was commissioned in recognition of the need for baseline data to guide future policy, planning, and land-use management.

Vermont Wind Energy Resource Assessment

In 2002, VERA, together with the VDPS, Green Mountain Power Corporation, and NRG Systems conducted a wind resource assessment for Vermont. The goal of this project was to gather wind resource data which would further the development of wind energy projects in the state.

Utility-Scale Wind Energy Planning Resources

In 2002, VERA partnered with the VDPS and others to carry out the Wind Siting Consensus Building Project. The intent of this project was to build consensus on the appropriate siting of utility-scale wind energy in Vermont, with special attention to the aesthetic impact of these facilities on Vermont's scenic landscape. The project was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy and administered by the Vermont Department of Public Service. Partners in the project included VERA, Renewable Energy Vermont, and the Woodbury Dispute Resolution Center.

Wind and Biomass Integration Scenarios in Vermont

In 2002, VERA utilized its mapping technology to develop wind power maps for a U.S. Department of Energy study designed in part to determine the extent to which Vermont can support increased wind energy development.
