lowell wind

Wind speed data gathered along the Lowell Mountain Range in Orleans County, Vermont show that powerful winds consistently blow up and over this ridgeline. Strong winds, together with the fact that roads and transmission lines are already located nearby, make Lowell Mountain a good candidate for wind energy development.

VERA is helping enXco determine the feasibility of developing Lowell Mountain as Northern Vermont's largest wind power facility. VERA is currently overseeing environmental studies in the area, developing preliminary project designs, and seeking local and regional input regarding the project.

Should the wind monitoring show the project is economical, and it is approved through the Vermont regulatory process, Lowell Wind will likely feature between 12 and 26 1.5-MW wind turbines – providing enough electricity to meet the needs of 6,000 to 13,000 average Vermont households.
