Georgia Mountain Community Wind

Georgia Mountain Wind FarmThis locally owned, locally developed wind project is planned for 2012 construction on Georgia Mountain in the towns of Milton and Georgia, in Chittenden and Franklin counties, in northwestern Vermont.  Georgia Mountain Community Wind is unique in that the land owner and client is also the developer.

As the team leader for this Project, Northeast Wind's broad responsibilities include feasibility assessments, financial modeling, and the management of development strategy while respecting budgets and schedules. Our pre-feasibility analysis for this project evaluated key development aspects and sought to identify potential "fatal flaws."  We also assisted in acquisition rights to develop neighboring land, directed the interconnection study and application process, managed the power purchase solicitation and agreement, directed wind turbine procurement, and prepared grant proposals that resulted in Vermont Clean Energy Development Grant Funding.

Northeast Wind also manages the wind measurement station program for our client, including permitting and installation, to verify wind characteristics.  The wind turbines sited along the hill top will provide enough power to meet the average electric needs of more than 4,200 Vermont households.

Working closely with our client, we created a development team comprised of Vermont technical experts. Local participation in all major aspects of development, including the sale of electricity to Vermont utilities, is the hallmark of this community-oriented effort.  After filing with the Vermont Public Service Board in March of 2009, Georgia Mountain Community Wind received its Certificate of Public Good in June 2010.  Northeast Wind now leads the GMCW construction team towards a 2012 commissioning date.
